What people are saying about our professional learning courses.
-
"I appreciated the independence in this course. I have heard about other online courses that involved more interactive discussions and feedback to other learners, but was glad that we were not expected to participate in those kinds of activities at this time, especially because it was summer and I was on the road and in the air the whole time."

The course really opened my eyes to how diverse and complicated giftedness is. Before I used to think that it was a small group of students, but now I understand that it could be just that I did not know how to notice/spot them. It has a lot to do with me thinking that they might be signs of other learning difficulties or behavioral problems.

Level 1 & 2 are essential courses for teachers of HAGT students. Level 2 offers a comprehensive and intensive dive into supporting all types of students identified as HAGT. It's an excellent course for all teachers, counselors and administrators. It is intensive, so plan on 12-15 hours a week. It's totally worth it; don't hesitate to sign up for it. You'll come away with not only the knowledge presented in the research but also practical tools to help you implement the best practices you learn about.

The resources in this class have been incredibly helpful as I think about unpacking my learning with others. I now have an articulated response to critics of acceleration and I hope to have a school wide plan finalized soon!

[I worked on] analyzing cases, finding the root cause and possible solutions, applying differentiation strategies to examples that I could share in my current role. It's a great deal of work but completely worth it!

Thank you again for a great experience. This was a very helpful venue for me to talk with my colleague about possible directions her division might go in their school improvement plan. Taking this class together allowed us to have rich discussions that were based on shared learning and not the expertise of one or the other.

I have raised my personal awareness of highly abled students and have had opportunity to reflect on my interactions with many students- this will undoubtedly make me a better teacher starting tomorrow. I also feel that with the knowledge gained from this course, I am now better able to contribute to the further development of my school's program for highly abled learners.

Thinking about Bibliotherapy with a new lens. Responding to challenging parents. Reflecting on the questions that I pose during book discussions. Even if you are quite versed in teaching reading, there are incredible resources and reflections that can happen through this course.

It should be something ALL leadership take to ensure they philosophically agree on how their school understands high ability and what steps they need to take in all divisions to provide effective provision. Plus - all activities colleagues need to take it too and see how their programs can play an important role in supporting those Ss.

I will encourage colleagues to take this course in hopes that they reap the same benefits that I have- that they will become advocates of our program and potential contributors to our program.

It is a great introductory course to giftedness because it can be done at your own pace. I am a person that can't just sit an hour every day with my schedule. It did not feel overwhelming to sit for the days that I set for a couple of hours to go through the readings and coursework.
